Getting started on your housing application

All students are eligible for on-campus housing. The housing application will ask you questions about yourself and your living and dining preferences to help determine your best fit for on-campus housing.

For transfer students moving to OSU in fall 2025:

The residence hall application for transfer students opens Feb. 4, 2025, at 2 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. You may join the waitlist to live in an on-campus apartment as soon as you are admitted to OSU.

1. Get admitted to Oregon State

Submit your application

Complete and submit your application for admission to Oregon State as a transfer student.

Register your ONID account

Once you have been admitted (including students enrolled in the Degree Partnership Program and Educational Opportunities Program), you’ll receive an OSU Network ID (ONID) account. Your ONID serves as your university email address and as a login credential for university services.

Go to the ONID website to activate your account. Remember to check your Oregon State ONID email throughout the year, as that's where we will send housing-related information and updates.

2. Research your options

Residence halls:

OSU has residence hall communities that are set aside for students in their second year of college or above, including a community just for transfer students. You may also want to explore our other Special Interest Communities or Living-Learning Communities.

Which residence halls fit your budget? Take a look at our room and dining rates.

What room types or bathroom styles are you looking for? Explore your options.

As a residence hall resident, you'll also have a dining plan to use at food locations across campus. Which dining plan best fits your needs?

On-campus apartments:

There are also apartment complexes on campus reserved for students beyond their first year of college. Learn more about The Gem and 1045 SW Madison Ave., including apartment types, amenities and cost.

If you have a domestic partner or dependents, explore Orchard Court, our on-campus family housing.

3. Apply for housing

To live in a residence hall, complete "part one" of the application.

Along with providing demographic and contact information, you will select top choices for communities you'd prefer to live in. The earlier you complete part one, the better your chances are of receiving an assignment. Access the application through your housing portal.

Notification on next steps: For those who have completed part 1 of the application, notifications will begin rolling out Feb. 14, 2025.

Tip: You can return to the residence hall application to update your answers later without affecting your part one completion date.

4. Room assignment

In the residence halls:

As space allows, transfer students will be able to go through room selection or verify a room placement. After you select a room, you will be able to sign the housing contract. Notification of application status will begin Feb. 14 and continue through September.

In an apartment:

If a room becomes available and your waitlist position is next in the queue, you will be contacted through your ONID email account with an apartment and a tour offer. Due to the high waitlist volume, applicants are given 72 hours to accept or decline the apartment offer.

5. Sign your contract

To secure your space in a residence hall, return to the housing portal and complete "part two" of the application -- signing a 2025-2026 UHDS Room and Dining Contract. You will be given access to sign the contract once you have selected a room or accepted a room placement. Make sure you understand the contract before you complete it.

To accept an apartment offer, follow the instructions in your apartment offer email.

6. Deposit & register

Pay your Advance Tuition Deposit confirming your intent to enroll at Oregon State.

Register for a new student onboarding session. Special sessions specific to transfer students are available.
