Getting started on your housing application

All students are eligible for on-campus housing. The housing application will ask you questions about yourself and your living and dining preferences to help determine your best fit for on-campus housing.

Ready to apply? Let's get started.

What type of student are you?

1. Get admitted to Oregon State

Submit your application

Complete and submit your application for admission to Oregon State as a transfer student.

Register your ONID account

Once you have been admitted (including students enrolled in the Degree Partnership Program and Educational Opportunities Program), you’ll receive an OSU Network ID (ONID) account. Your ONID serves as your university email address and as a login credential for university services.

Go to the ONID website to activate your account; select “Activate your ONID.” Once you've activated it, remember to check your Oregon State ONID email throughout the year, as that's where we will send housing-related information and updates.

2. Research your options

What living environment is right for you?

We have residence hall communities that are set aside for students in their second year of college or above, including communities just for transfer students.

If you have a domestic partner or dependents, check out our on-campus family housing.

If you are looking for a studio or one-bedroom apartment, you could consider The Gem.

Do you want to live in a Living-Learning Community or a Special Interest Community? Does your major strongly encourage you to select a certain community?

Which residence halls fit your budget?

Take a look at our room and dining rates. (Rates for the 2023-24 academic year will be released in spring 2023.)

What are your living and dining preferences?

What room types or types of bathroom styles are you looking for? Explore your options.

Which dining plan suits your needs?

3. Apply for housing

Students entering OSU fall term 2023 can apply to live in the residence halls for the 2023-24 academic year beginning Feb. 7, 2023.

Log in and apply through the housing portal.

Complete "part one" in the application: along with providing demographic and contact information, you will select top choices for communities you'd prefer to live in. The earlier you complete part one of the application, the better your chances are of receiving an assignment in one of these spaces.

You can return to the application to update your answers later without affecting your part one completion date.

4. Deposit & register

Pay your Advance Tuition Deposit confirming your intent to enroll at Oregon State.

Register for a START orientation session. Special START sessions specific to transfer students are available.

5. Sign your housing contract

Complete "part two" in the application: return to the housing portal to sign a 2023-2024 UHDS Room and Dining Contract beginning May 2, 2023. You are required to sign a contract prior to being assigned a room. Make sure you understand the contract before you complete it.

We will continue to accept applications for fall 2023 beyond June 30, 2023. Access to sign the contract and be given a housing assignment will be made only on a space-available basis.

6. Find a roommate

Complete "part three" in the application: fill out the roommate questionnaire in the housing portal.

Oregon State offers an online roommate matching process that allows students to select their own roommate. Participating in roommate matching is optional. Our staff will match you with another student if you do not select your own roommate.

Make sure you understand how gender identity affects roommate matching.

Learn more about the roommate matching process.

To be eligible for online roommate matching, you must have submitted your housing application and completed the housing contract by June 30. Online roommate matching will be available from July 5 to July 20.

If you have a friend you already know you would like to live with, you must both select one another in the roommate matching system.

7. Room assignment

Transfer student room assignments will be sent to student ONID email addresses beginning in August and continue throughout the summer.
