Getting started on your housing application

All students are eligible for on-campus housing. The housing application will ask you questions about yourself and your living and dining preferences to help determine your best fit for on-campus housing.

The residence hall application for current students opens Feb. 4, 2025 at 2 p.m. Pacific Standard Time and will remain open until March 14, 2025.

Students who attend the Second Year & Above Kickoff event on Jan. 28 will receive early access to the housing application on Jan. 31.

1. Research your options

Residence Halls:

OSU has residence hall communities that are set aside for student in their second year of college or above. Which of our Second Year & Above communities fits your needs?

As a residence hall resident, you'll also have a dining lan to use at food locations across campus. Which dining plan suits your needs? Remember that any unused funds from this year will roll over to next year.

On-campus apartments:

There are also apartment complexes on campus reserved for students beyond their first year of college. Learn more about The Gem and 1045 SW Madison Ave., including apartment types, amenities and cost.  You may join the waitlist to live in an on-campus apartment at any time.

2. Apply for housing

To live in a residence hall, complete "part one" of the application.

During part one, you will provide demographic and contact information. The earlier you complete part one, the better your chances are of receiving an assignment. Access the application through your housing portal

Tip: You can return to the residence hall application to update your answers later without affecting your part one completion date.

To apply for an on-campus apartment, join the waitlist.

3. Participate in Roommate Matching

In the residence halls:

As space allows, applicants will receive a time slot for room selection with the option to participate in roommate matching. Roommate matching will occur between Feb. 7-17.

You may select up to three people to be a part of your group to fill a room. All SYA rooms are open to any gender.

4. Select your room

In the residence halls:

All students that have completed part one of the application by Feb. 13 will be notified of the current status of their application on Feb. 14.

As space allows, applicants will be given an individual time slot to select a room (as noted above). This time slot is based on the completion date for part one of the housing application. The room selection period will be Feb. 18-28 after roommate matching has concluded.

Those applicants who did not receive an initial time slot for room selection will be given the opportunity to review a room assignment offer and sign the contract on a rolling basis based on room availability.

In an on-campus apartment:

If a room becomes available and your waitlist position is next in the queue, you will be contacted through your ONID email account with an apartment and a tour offer. Due to the high waitlist volume, applicants are given 72 hours to accept or decline the apartment offer.

5. Sign your housing contract

To secure your space in a residence hall, return to the housing portal and complete "part two" of the application -- signing a 2025-2026 UHDS Room and Dining Contract. You will be given access to sign the contract once you have selected a room or accepted a room placement. Make sure you understand the contract before you complete it.

A $50 contract fee will be charged after signing the contract. The deadline to cancel your contract with no cancelation fee is May 31, 2025.

To accept an apartment offer, follow the instructions in your apartment offer email.
