Getting started on your housing application

All students are eligible for on-campus housing. The housing application will ask you questions about yourself and your living and dining preferences to help determine your best fit for on-campus housing.

Ready to apply? Let's get started.

What type of student are you?

1. Get admitted to Oregon State

Submit your application

Complete and submit your application for admission to Oregon State.

For first-year students moving to OSU in fall 2024: The new student housing application opens February 13, 2024, at 2 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

Register your ONID account

Once you have been admitted (including students enrolled in the Degree Partnership Program and Educational Opportunities Program) you’ll receive an OSU Network ID (ONID) account. Your ONID serves as your Oregon State email address and as a log-in credential for university services.

Go to the ONID website to activate your account; select “Activate your ONID" and follow the instructions. Once you've activated it, remember to check your Oregon State ONID email throughout the year, as that's where we will send housing-related information and updates.

2. Research your options

Consider a specialized community

Do you want to live in a Living-Learning Community or a Special Interest Community? Does your major strongly encourage you to select a certain community?

Which halls fit your budget?

Take a look at our room and dining rates.

What are your living and dining preferences?

What room types or bathroom styles are you looking for? Explore your options. (Be aware that some options, such as single rooms, have very limited availability).

Which dining plan suits your needs?

3. Apply for housing

Log in and apply through the housing portal.

Complete “part one” in the application: this part covers demographic and contact information along with housing preferences. The earlier you complete part one of the application, the better your chances are of receiving one of your top choices.

You can return to the application to update your answers later without affecting your part one completion date.

Students who apply for housing and sign their contract by May 31, 2024, and have paid their ATD, are eligible to select their own roommate in June. We will continue to accept housing applications after May 31, 2024, but later applicants will not be eligible for online roommate matching.

4. Deposit

Pay your Advance Tuition Deposit confirming your intent to enroll at Oregon State.

5. Sign your housing contract

Complete “part two” in the application: return to the housing portal to sign a 2024-2025 UHDS Room and Dining Contract beginning May 2, 2024. You are required to sign a contract prior to being assigned a room. Make sure you understand your contract before you complete it.

If you are under 18 when you sign your contract, a parent/guardian signature is also required.

6. Find a roommate

Complete “part three” in the application: fill out the roommate questionnaire in the housing portal.

Oregon State offers an online roommate matching process that allows students to select their own roommate. Participating in roommate matching is optional. Our staff will match you with another student if you do not select your own roommate.

Make sure you understand how gender identity affects roommate matching.

To be eligible for online roommate matching, you must have:

  • submitted part one of the housing application by May 31, 2024
  • completed your housing contract by May 31, 2024
  • paid your ATD (unless you are ATD exempt or a Degree Partnership Program participant)

Online roommate matching will be available from June 1 at 2 p.m. to June 30, 2024.

7. Register for START orientation

Before you can receive a room assignment, you must register for a START orientation session. For incoming fall 2024 students, START registration begins in May 2024.

8. Room assignment

Room assignments will begin in late July 2024 and continue throughout the summer. Room assignments will be sent to students' Oregon State email addresses.

The date you receive your room assignment depends on the following:

  1. Dates you completed parts one and two of the housing application.
  2. Eligibility criteria for communities.
  3. Completing all necessary steps to confirm attendance at Oregon State including START registration.
