Hawley has a shared kitchen with a full-size refrigerator, oven, cooktop, sink and microwave, available for residents 24/7. In addition, each floor has a shared microwave. Cooking equipment is available for checkout from the front desk. Residents of the Second Year & Above community have access to an additional large kitchen on the first floor.
Residents in Buxton and Hawley share a large lounge on the first floor of Hawley with cable TV, couches, and games. There are also smaller lounges and study spaces on each floor of both buildings. All lounges are available ro residents 24/7. Board games, video games and more are available for checkout from the front desk each evening.
Engineering Living-Learning Community: All pre-engineering majors are welcome in the Engineering Living-Learning Community.
This unique living community is a great way for pre-engineering students to make friendships and create connections between their in-class and out-of-class experiences. Residents can get to know College of Engineering faculty and advisors outside of the classroom, and also have access to the DamLab Makerspace, a state-of-the-art lab equipped with 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC mills and other tools, on the first floor of Buxton Hall.
Second Year and Above: The first floor houses a Second Year & Above community for engineering students who have already completed at least one year of college. Second Year & Above community residents can access a private lounge, a large updated kitchen, and single-user gender-inclusive bathrooms on the floor.
Single-Gender Suites: Hawley has single-gender suites that are available to students requesting a religious exemption. Residents of these suites agree to no visitors of the opposite gender and a substance-free environment.
Nuclear Engineering: For 2019-20, a wing of the second floor of Hawley will be home to a cohort of Nuclear Engineering students. Students will be assigned to rooms in this community by UHDS staff.
The resident director is a professional staff member who lives in Buxton Hall and supervises the student staff members. Contact the resident director for help transitioning to college life, room changes and roommate issues, guidance and support.
The live-in student staff members of Hawley Hall include resident assistants, a Community Relations Facilitor, and an Academic Learning Assistant. Contact student staff members with questions about your building as well as for help with personal, social and academic needs, and general community issues.
The Residential Area Director is a professional staff member who lives on campus and supervises several resident directors. The RAD also advises the area councils that represent on-campus residents, and can help students find campus leadership opportunities.
