About our department:

University Housing & Dining Services houses over 4,800 students and offers a variety of living and dining options in 15 residence halls, three dining centers, more than a dozen retail and coffee shop locations across campus, a market, and a limited number of family apartments.

Food Service Worker 2

10-month position

Entry level needing only 1 year of commercial food service experience
Works both food prep, utility, and customer service
Performs routine tasks
Helps train students

Food Service Worker 3

10-month position

Leadership role within a micro restaurant
Performs non-routine tasks
Requires 3 years of commercial food service experience, or a degree
Directs students and Food Service Worker 2
Typically used in the front-of-the-house

Cook 1

10-month position

Prepares simple menu items from standardized recipes based on the daily production list
Requires 1 year experience or a culinary certificate

Cook 2

12-month position

Leadership role within a micro restaurant, or area
Orders and coordinates food production within a micro restaurant
Reviews work of others and provides training
Requires 2 years of commercial cooking experience, or a degree

Food Service Coordinator

12-month position

Leadership role within a dining center as an assistant to the assistant managers or Chefs
More an administrative position than a culinary position
Requires 2 years of commercial food service experience with increasing responsibility

Sous Chef

professional faculty

Leadership role within a dining center as an assistant to the Chef de Cuisine
More culinary position than administrative
Typically for those interested in a culinary path
Involved in recipe updating and creation
At least 1 direct report employee
Requires 2 years of culinary and leadership experience and a degree or culinary certificate

Assistant Manager

Typically the key person for student hiring, training and scheduling
Requires 3 years of commercial food service experience with increasing responsibility
