Rates for Halsell Hall

Eligibility: Students who are graduate students, transfer students, or are in their second year or above of college are eligible to live in Halsell.

Room types: All rooms in Halsell Hall are in apartment-style suites that include either two or four bedrooms, semi-private restrooms, kitchenettes and living rooms. Within the suites, several different bedroom types are available:

  • 15 percent suite-style large single rooms
  • 29.9 percent suite-style single rooms
  • 46.2 percent suite-style double rooms
  • 9 percent suite-style triple rooms

What's provided in the building

Halsell residents get their mail at Arnold Service Center.

Room types

Halsell Hall offers apartment-style suites.

Four-bedroom and two-bedroom suites are available.

Halsell suites contain semi-private restrooms shared only with other residents of that suite. Residents are responsible for cleaning their own in-suite restrooms.

Room details

In addition to bedroom furniture, Halsell suites come furnished with a table, chairs, a couch, under-counter refrigerator, cooktop and microwave.

Each bedroom in Halsell will come with its own MicroFridge (microwave/mini-refrigerator combination).

About the building

Halsell Hall kitchenette with an electric cooktop and a small sink.

Kitchens

  • Every suite in Halsell comes with a kitchenette that contains an under-counter refrigerator, microwave, cooktop and sink.
  • Cooking pots are provided with every suite.
  • In addition, the first floor of Halsell has a shared kitchen with an oven, stovetop and additional minifridge, available 24/7 for resident use.

Lounges

  • Every suite in Halsell comes with a shared in-suite living room. 
  • In addition, there are multiple lounges throughout the building equipped with couches, games, large-screen TVs, and space for residents to gather, study and socialize.
  • Check with the hall staff to see what amenities are available at the desk, which might include game equipment.

  

Laundry Room

 

Laundry in Oregon State University residence halls is free for residents; no coins or cards are required.

  • Halsell has two laundry rooms, one on the second floor and one on the fourth floor.
  • Residents should bring their own laundry soap and other supplies.
  • Liquid detergent is preferred.
  • Laundry pods must be placed in the washer itself.
  • Use the Campus CleanPay app to monitor laundry status. (App set-up instructions are posted on site.)

  

Trash and Recycling

 

Each Halsell suite has bins for trash and for recycling. When the room bins are full, residents need to empty them in the building's trash and recycling areas.

  • Bottles, cans and paper: recycle these items inside, in the gray, metal recycling bins in the lobby area on the ground floor.
  • Corrugated cardboard: recycle cardboard outside, in the cardboard bin in the parking lot on the north side of the building.
  • Trash: empty your trash can outside, in the dumpster in the parking lot on the north side of the building.

  • Two locked, covered outdoor bike storage rooms on the north side of the building

Restrooms in Halsell Hall

All suites in Halsell have restrooms containing a shower, toilet and sink; these are shared only with other residents of the suite.

In-suite restrooms are individual, lockable rooms, one with a toilet and sink, and the other with a shower.

Residents with suite-style restrooms are responsible for cleaning restrooms themselves. UHDS custodial staff clean restrooms in the building common areas daily.

South side neighborhood

The south side neighborhood features four residence halls: Bloss, Finley, Halsell and the International Living-Learning Center. Dining options include Southside Station @ Arnold, Cascadia Café and Cascadia Market & Deli. Southside residents live close to the Beth Ray Center for Academic Support. The Center offers programs and services to help students achieve their collegiate academic goals.  

For those who want to be part of Oregon State game days, this neighborhood is the place to be with Reser Stadium, Goss Stadium, Gill Coliseum and the Beaver Store. Softball, soccer, and track and field facilities are also nearby. Fans of the arts can visit the LaSells Stewart Center, a premier performing arts venue for concerts, performances and gallery exhibitions throughout the year.

Halsell is a gender-inclusive community. 

You can choose to share your room and suite with fellow students of any gender identity. If housing staff are assigning your roommates and suitemates, you may be assigned a roommate or suitemate whose gender identity is different from your own.

 

Special Interest Communities

Second-Year and Above: All of Halsell Hall is a Second-Year and Above Community. This community is for students who have completed at least one year at Oregon State or are graduate students.

Transfer Students: The first floor is home to a Transfer Student community for students transferring to Oregon State after previously completing post-high school coursework at another institution of higher learning. There's also a Transfer Student Living Room on the first floor of Halsell, a private lounge just for OSU transfer students.

 

Hall Staff

Professional Staff: Each hall has a professional staff member who lives on campus, supervises student staff members, and is available to meet with students one-on-one for guidance and support.

Student Staff: A team of student staff members lives in Halsell Hall to assist residents.
