Living in the heart of Beaver Nation can be a great way to begin your journey at Oregon State. Each year students in their second year and above -- many of them transfer students -- call the Oregon State campus home. From professional live-in staff to answer your questions to convenient dining close to your hall, living on campus can help support your transition to college at OSU.
Making Beaver Nation your home
Several residence halls on the Oregon State campus are either partially or fully set aside for second-year and above students. We even have a hall with a dedicated transfer community so you can live with other Beavs who may be on a similar academic path to yours. And students beyond their first year of college are also eligible to live in one of our on-campus apartments.
As a campus resident, you'll have a dining plan to use at more than 25 locations, from micro-restaurants and cafes to the campus grocery market. Campus dining is also open to students who elect to live off campus but want to take advantage of the convenience and variety offered by OSU's dining locations.
A residence hall community just for transfer students
Halsell Hall is exclusively for second-year and above students, with one floor just for transfer students. It offers apartment-style living, with either two or four bedrooms sharing a common area with a kitchenette, living room and one-and-a-half bathrooms. Suites in Halsell are not assigned by gender; you may share your room or suite with a roommate or suitemates of any gender identity.

Residence halls
While transfer students often live in our dedicated transfer community in Halsell Hall, you may also request to live in another community on campus, particularly if it aligns with your academic major, interest or identity. Options include:
- All communities set aside for students in their second year and beyond
- Communities aligned with academic programs or majors: Living-Learning Communities
- Communities built around common interests: Special Interest Communities
- All residence halls

On-campus apartments
Students in their second year of college or above, such as transfer students, may also apply to live in The Gem or 1045 SW Madison Avenue. The Gem primarily features studio and one-bedroom units while 1045 SW Madison offers studio and two-bedroom apartment-style suites (for two roommates). Units are fully furnished and all utilities are included. Please be advised there is a waiting list for these spaces.
Student family housing
Students who are married, have registered domestic partners, or have children living at home can live in Orchard Court, Oregon State's family housing apartment community. Please be advised that there is a waiting list for these spaces; visit the Family Housing page to learn more about eligibility and housing options.
Enjoy campus dining
No matter if you choose to live on or off campus, Oregon State dining is open to you. From cozy cafes to robot food delivery, you'll find tasty, fresh-made food available across campus.
As an on-campus resident in the residence halls, you'll sign up for one of four dining plans that provide you with a payment method and discount at UHDS-managed locations. Like to cook? Use your dining plan to purchase groceries at our on-campus grocery market and cook for yourself in your hall kitchen. When you use your dining plan, you'll receive a 20-percent discount at micro-restaurants in the dining centers, and a 10-percent discount at other UHDS restaurants, markets and cafes.
Additionally, all students can take advantage of OSU's Orange Cash program. Use the Orange Cash account on your OSU ID card to pay at campus dining locations and get a 10-percent discount on your purchases. Orange Cash is also accepted at locations that don't take UHDS dining plans.
Food is available on campus seven days a week, 365 days a year.
The Transfer Student Living Room
On the first floor of Halsell Hall, there is a lounge set aside for transfer students. The Transfer Student Living Room is designed to give transfer students a space on campus to relax between classes, study with friends, and build a community. It is publicly available from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day to all transfer students, whether living on campus or not.
The Transfer Student Living Room has a study area with tables and a whiteboard, and a social area with a couch, chairs and a television. The attached kitchen has a small refrigerator, sink, stovetop and oven for students to use. Two bathrooms (one with a shower) are also available. Learn more about the Transfer Student Living Room.
