Area Council Meetings

Weekly Monday meetings at 6PM

West Side: LINC 268

East Side: Timberline Room in McNary Dining (Near 541)

South Side: ILLC classroom 345



It is the purpose of the RHA Councils to represent the members of the RHA in addressing their concerns and issues related to their residential experience, to coordinate or sponsor activities relevant to the residence halls, and to recognize members’ outstanding actions of leadership, scholarship, and service. The RHA shall also be a vehicle of communication and representation between its members and other student organizations, Associated Students of Oregon State University (ASOSU), UHDS, the Division of Student Affairs, and other offices of the university.

Area Councils are composed of residents from their respective side of campus (East, South, and West sides):

  • East Side Area Council (Callahan, Dixon Lodge/McNary, Tebeau, Wilson)
  • South Side Area Council (Bloss, Finley, Halsell, ILLC)
  • West Side Area Council (Cauthorn, Hawley/Buxton, Poling, Sackett, Weatherford, West)


All Area Council positions are elected Week 4 of fall term. For each Area Council, the positions include:

  • Chair
    • Host and run meetings 
  • Treasurer
    • Manage funds & work within budgets 
  • Secretary
    • Takes minutes & attendance 
  • Marketing Officer
    • Creates marketing for events 
  • Hall Program Coordinator (one per hall)
    • Plans 1 hall specific event per term


What Area Councils do:

  • Manage funds, which includes distributing funds to hall staff, funding events, activities, and other initiatives
  • Host programs for residents (from simple movie nights to large, campus-wide events, and AfterDarks)
  • Represent their fellow residents and halls at Area Council and RHA General Assembly meetings
  • Advocate for residents


All OSU campus residents can and are encouraged to attend meetings and have voting powers.
