Getting started on your housing application

All students are eligible for on-campus housing. The housing application will ask you questions about yourself and your living and dining preferences to help determine your best fit for on-campus housing.

0. Ready to apply? Let's get started.

What type of student are you?

1. Confirm your enrollment

Learn about living on campus

Oregon State students (including students enrolled in the Degree Partnership Program and Educational Opportunities Program) who intend to take winter or spring term classes may apply to live on campus. Enrolled students whose classes are primarily delivered remotely may still live on campus.

Review Oregon State’s First Year Experience and Live-On Policy.

2. Research your options

Communities designed with you in mind.

Do you want to live in a Living-Learning Community or a Special Interest Community? Does your major require or strongly encourage you to select a certain community?

Students who have majors in the College of Business are required to live in College of Business communities. Business students who would like to live outside these communities or with a non-Business roommate can contact us for more information.

What are your living and dining preferences?

Which dining plan suits your needs?

What room types or bathroom styles are you looking for? Explore your options.

Be aware that some options, such as single rooms, have very limited availability.

Every effort will be made to accommodate one of your housing selections; however room assignments are contingent on current room availability in residence halls.

3. Apply for housing

Understand your contract

Your application is also your contract; make sure you understand the application before you complete it.

Apply through the MyUHDS Web portal

In the application, you will be able to select a dining plan and indicate your top three preferences for on-campus communities. For winter term applicants, you can return to the application to update your answers until Dec. 1, 2020, without affecting your application completion date.

Apply by Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, at 12 p.m. for winter term housing and by Thursday, March 25, 2020, at 12 p.m. for spring term housing.

4. Make sure you're registered

Before you can receive a room assignment, you must be registered for classes, or registered for a START orientation session.

5. Optional: request a roommate

Roommate Request Waitlist Process

If you wish to live with a specific Oregon State student, you may fill out a form in MyUHDS requesting that student as a roommate. The deadline to submit roommate requests for winter term is Dec. 6, 2020. All roommate matches must be completely mutual to be valid, and that student must also agree to the roommate pairing. Filling out the form does not guarantee that all requests can be accommodated.

If you do not request a specific roommate, UHDS staff will use the information you provided in your housing application to pair you with a roommate.

Make sure you understand how gender identity affects roommate matching.

6. Room assignment

All Done?

Students must complete all items in Steps 1-4 before they can receive a room assignment.

Room assignments begin

For winter term 2021, room assignments will begin the week of December 14, 2020. Room assignments will be sent to your Oregon State email address.
