Have you eaten at dining centers on campus and noticed the  icon on the menu boards and online menus? You may be wondering what this icon means and how it affects you. Well, good news! This icon stands for Better Bites—Menu items that have better nutrition and are better for your health. What’s better than that?

Menu entrees that qualify as Better Bites have to meet 3 out of the 5 following criteria

  • <650 calories
  • <6 grams saturated fat
  • <600 milligrams sodium
  • >6 grams fiber
  • >12 grams protein

Menu sides also have to meet 3 out of the 5 following criteria:

  • <250 calories
  • <3 grams saturated fat
  • <300 milligrams sodium
  • >3 grams fiber
  • >6 grams protein

All items must have <0.5 grams trans-fat and cannot exceed 1,200 milligrams sodium or 10 grams saturated fat.

What do all of these items have in common? They're Better Bite options!

Next time you find yourself grabbing a bite to eat at Market Place West, Arnold or McNary dining centers, look for the icon and you’ll know you’re really eating something better.
