About Halsell Hall 

Kitchens

  • Every suite in Halsell comes with a kitchenette that contains an under-counter refrigerator, microwave, cooktop, and sink.
  • Cooking pots are provided with every suite.
  • In addition, the first floor of Halsell has a shared kitchen with an oven, stovetop, and additional minifridge, available 24/7 for resident use.

Lounges

  • Every suite in Halsell comes with a shared in-suite living room. 
  • In addition, there are multiple lounges throughout the building equipped with couches, games, large-screen TVs, and space for residents to gather, study and socialize.
  • Board games and game equipment like pool cues and ping-pong paddles are available to check out from the front desk.

  
Laundry Rooms

Laundry in Oregon State University residence halls is free for residents; no coins or cards are required.

  • Halsell has two laundry rooms, one on the second floor and one on the fourth floor.
  • Residents should bring their own laundry soap and other supplies.
  • Liquid detergent is preferred.
  • Laundry pods must be placed in the washer itself.
  • Use the Campus CleanPay app to monitor laundry status. (App set-up instructions are posted on site.)
  
Trash and Recycling

Each Halsell suite has bins for trash and for recycling. When the room bins are full, residents need to empty them in the building's trash and recycling areas.

  • Bottles, cans and paper: recycle these items inside, in the gray, metal recycling bins in the lobby area on the ground floor.
  • Corrugated cardboard: recycle cardboard outside, in the cardboard bin in the parking lot on the north side of the building.
  • Trash: empty your trash can outside, in the dumpster in the parking lot on the north side of the building.

Bathrooms in Halsell Hall

 

  • All suites in Halsell have bathrooms containing a shower, toilet, and sink; these are shared only with other residents of the suite.
  • In-suite bathrooms are individual, lockable rooms, one with a toilet and sink, and the other with a shower.
  • Residents with suite-style bathrooms are responsible for cleaning bathrooms themselves. UHDS custodial staff clean bathrooms in the building common areas daily.

  • In addition to bedroom furniture, Halsell suites come furnished with a table, chairs, a couch, under-counter refrigerator, cooktop, and microwave.
  • Beginning in Fall 2020, each bedroom in Halsell will come with its own MicroFridge (microwave/mini-refrigerator combination).

Suite Floor Plan (2-Bedroom & 4-Bedroom Respectively)

Halsell is a gender-inclusive community. 

You can choose to share your room and suite with fellow students of any gender identity. If housing staff are assigning your roommates and suitemates,  you may be assigned a roommate or suitemate whose gender identity is different from your own.

Special Interest Communities

Second-Year and Above: All of Halsell Hall is a Second-Year and Above Community. This community is for students who have completed at least one year at Oregon State, are graduate students, or are transferring from another institution.

Transfer Students: The first floor is home to a Transfer Student community for students transferring to Oregon State after previously completing post-high school coursework at another institution of higher learning. There's also a Transfer Student Living Room on the first floor of Halsell, a private lounge just for OSU transfer students.

Hall Staff

Professional Staff: Each hall has a professional staff member who lives on campus, supervises student staff members, and is available to meet with students one-on-one for guidance and support.

Student Staff: A team of student staff members lives in Halsell Hall to assist residents.
