What is the alcohol policy for underage students?Our policy around alcohol is in accordance with Oregon state law. Additionally, we have substance free special interest communities that prohibit alcohol use for everyone (even those over 21). Are OSU students concerned about Social Justice and/or are there Resident Hall programs that discuss Social Justice issues?
OSU students are concerned about social justice issues and are willing to get involved. Many seem to have a genuine interest in the area and get involved through Community Relations Facilitator (CRF) workshops, the Cultural Resource Centers, or in-hall programming. The Diversity Initiatives and Programming unit in UHDS is intended to increase the level of comfort, satisfaction, and academic success for students from historically underrepresented communities and thereby increase the student recruitment and retention. What is the basic make up of University Housing and Dining Services?
University Housing and Dining Services is made up of multiple units to offer our residents the best on campus experience possible. These units are Diversity Initiatives and Programs, Assessment and Business Development, Finance & Information Services, Residential Education, Dining & Catering Services, Facilities Services, Operations, and Marketing & Communications. How many student staff and graduate assistants do you employ?
We have approximately 140 Resident Assistants (RAs), 14 Academic Learning Assistants (ALAs), 14 Community Relations Facilitators (CRFs), and two Family Housing Community Assistants on staff. Add a link to Student Staff PDs?
Is UHDS affiliated with any professional organizations?
OSU UHDS is an Institutional Member of NWACUHO and ACUHO-I. Many RDs and other UHDS employees use their professional development funds to attend either the regional conference (NWACUHO), the national conference (ACUHO-I), and/or many of the other conferences offered through ACUHO-I. Many employees also serve on committees or elected positions for the region.
Will you be interviewing at The Placement Exchange (TPE)?
Yes, we will have representation at TPE.
When is the expected start date?
We are hoping to have new RDs on campus by July 1st to begin training in the following week.
What is the expected interview timeline?
The interview timeline is flexible, but we hope to have individuals hired by the end of April, with a tentative start date of July 1st.
How many Resident Directors do you hire each year?
On average there are 2-3 openings each year, the number becomes clearer closer to the end of the year.
What professional development opportunities are offered to employees/RDs?
Resident Directors find numerous outlets for professional development (PD) through the course of their work and by reaching out to various entities on campus. All Resident Directors will draft a PD plan with their supervisor at the beginning of every school year, which allows open communication and support for professional development in the supervisory relationship.
What opportunities are available to RDs through committee work?
Resident Directors serve on various committees to meet the needs of the Residential Education Unit. Currently we have Resident Directors serving on the following committees, but keep in mind that these can change from year to year depending on the needs of the Unit.

What Living Learning Communities are present on campus? Are there any other special interest communities?
UHDS has many different on campus communities to fit the needs and interests of our students. Some of our Living-Learning Communities include Arts & Social Justice, College of Business, Global Village, and Engineering. Additionally, we offer special interest communities such as substance-free living and study intensive floors. What is your pet policy?
Staff are permitted to own one pet (either one cat or one dog). Pets must have a temperament that is not considered a dangerous animal per the City of Corvallis Municipal Code Section 5.03.050.010 (see Appendix B). Service and Assistance Animals do not apply to our policy and are automatically permitted in the residence halls.
What is your policy regarding live-in partners?
Residential Education professional live-in staff can have whomever they wish live with them and need only provide their names so we can add them to our Assignments database and issue them keys. If partners are wanting to have the benefits of being an OSU Affiliate (library access, recreation center, athletics discounts, etc), they do need to sign an Affidavit of Marriage or an Affidavit of Domestic Partnership with OSU. Additionally, all live-in partners are required to sign the same live-in agreement that Resident Directors are. The Agreement outlines expectations for residing in the community, damages to the apartment, etc.
Is there parking available for RDs on campus?
Resident Director’s receive a reserved parking spot near their residence hall, but like all employees, they must purchase a pass that will allow them to park in the corresponding parking lot. Is a meal stipend provided to the RDs?
A meal plan is provided to all Resident Directors as part of their compensation package. Resident Directors are encouraged to utilize their meal plan to dine with their staff and be more present in the community.
What sort of opportunities are available for self-care on campus?
