Course Connections

Residents of the ASJLLC enroll in courses together as a part of the living learning community experience. The following is the tentative schedule, courses are subject to change.

Fall 2016

  • Take the ES, WGSS, or QS 409, Arts and Social Justice: Foundations for Cultural Democracy, 2 credit practicum.  How can we use creativity in service of empathy, equity, and social imagination?  Students will learn about topics such as cultural citizenship and community-based art, and build community with the ASJLLC cohort.  Meets Wednesdays, 10:00-11:50 am, Callahan 125.  Please email: charlene.martinez@oregonstate.edu who can process an override so you can register for the class.
  • And, take an intro Ethnic Studies (101, 221, 243), Queer Studies (262), and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (223, 224, 230, 235) course of your choice.

Winter 2017

  • Take the Arts and Social Justice Intro course - ES, WGSS, or QS 375, 4 credits. This course explores concepts of structural inequality, difference, power, and discrimination through a critical survey of arts activism.  Students will think critically about artwork and artists which address a number of social issues in the United States, including race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality, immigration, and indigeneity. This course fulfills a Bacc Core requirement for Difference, Power and Discrimination, Core, Pers.

Faculty partners: OSU faculty from Ethnic Studies, Queer Studies, and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies collaborate and support workshops and programs for LLC members.
